In the concluding session of the annual al-Hidayah retreat (2007), Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri offered the participants practical spiritual advice to take back with them and incorporate into their lives. The Shaykh begins by elaborating on the virtues of travelling for knowledge and spiritual refinement. He states that encountering hardships in this noble process is inevitable and that they act as a means of spiritual progression for the seeker. The Shaykh provides anecdotal references to illustrate the aforementioned advice. He further states that we must free ourselves from the shackles of the ego and prepare for the service of the Chosen one (peace be upon him). The doors of divine blessing remain open, however we are no longer true recipients. We are not externally, nor internally prepared for these openings from Allah (swt), he explains. This lecture is of timeless relevance to all true seekers who yearn nearness to the Lord (swt).
